North Africans are largely divided into two main groups: Arabs in the east and Berbers in the west. However, there is considerable overlap, and most North Africans of all ethnicities speak Arabic. Most people in North Africa, both Arabs and Berbers, are Muslims, so they tend to use Muslim names, which are typically Arabic or derived from Arabic.
There are still large communities throughout the region which speak one of the dialects of Berber, a language family related to Arabic, and in these communities Berber names are often used.
