The Dutch originated from the Franks, a federation of Germanic tribes, who settled in the Low Countries, the lowlands around the river deltas on the North Sea coast. Today some aspects of Dutch culture are famous around the world and are being reintegrated into Dutch identity.
The majority of Dutch people live outside of the Netherlands in South Africa, the U.S., Brazil, France, Canada, Indonesia, and other countries. Because Dutch communities are so widespread, traditional Dutch names can be found in many places around the world.
