In the Old Testament the name Joab was borne by the nephew of King David. As commander of his uncle's army, Joab was responsible for many deaths, including that of Absalom.
The son of King David, Absalom rose against his father, and even though the king commanded that his life be spared, Joab killed him. As King David died, he condemned Joab, who was killed by the king's successor Solomon. In modern times, Joab is an unusual name.
