The name Arkadios means "of Arcadia" in Greek. Arcadia was a region in Greece which was the mythological home of the god Pan and whose inhabitants were considered to be peaceful country dwellers. The name of the region comes from Arcas, the son of Zeus and Callisto, whose name resembles the Greek word "arktos" meaning "bear". According to the legend, Arcas and his mother were turned into the constellations Ursa Minor ("little bear") and Ursa Major ("big bear").
