Meaning of the Name Angus
The name Angus is an Anglicized form of the Scottish Gaelic name Aonghas, derived from the Celtic words meaning "one choice".
Aonghas (Aonghus or Aengus in modern Irish) was the name of an ancient Celtic god of youth, beauty, and perhaps love. The earliest instance of the name Aonghas being used as a personal name is found in the writings of St. Adomnán (c. 627 - 704) and refers to a man who would have a long life and a peaceful death, possibly the 8th-century Pictish king recorded as Hungus, Angus or Onnust.
