Meaning of the Name Absalom
The name Absalom comes from the Hebrew name Avshalom meaning "father of peace" or "father is peace".
In the Old Testament Absalom was the favorite son of King David and was praised for his great beauty and abundant hair. He led a rebellion against his father, driving him from Jerusalem, but he later lost a battle in the wood of Ephraim.
While he was fleeing, his hair became entangled in a tree. One of David's men saw this and alerted Joab, one of the king's three commanders, who ignored the king's explicit instructions to spare Absalom and killed him instead, greatly upsetting the king.
