The name Zita has two meanings:
1. It comes from the name of a saint who lived in the 13th century. She was the patron saint of maids and domestic servants.
According to some theories, her name could be derived from the medieval Tuscan (Tuscany is a region of Central Italy) word "zitta" meaning "girl".
However, other sources try to link the name with the Greek word "zetein" meaning "to seek".
2. It is also a pet form of Felicitás. This name is used in Hungary.
