1. It is an Anglicized form of the Irish place name Teamhair meaning "hill" in Gaelic. According to tradition, it was the seat of the high kings of Ireland.
2. It means "star" in Sanskrit. In Hinduism, Tara is a byname of the goddess Durga. In Mahayana Buddhism, Tara is the name of the wife of Buddha.
