The name Imogen is of Irish origin. Imogen was the daughter of King Cymbeline in the Shakespeare's play "Cymbeline".
According to some modern editions of Shakespeare's plays, the correct name is in fact Innogen,
and the spelling "Imogen" was an error which arose when the manuscripts were first committed to print.
The name Innogen was derived from the Gaelic word "inghean" meaning "maiden".
