The name Alice originally came from the Old French form of Germanic Adalheidis (see Adelaide).
However, Alice and Adelaide have been considered distinct (and even unrelated) names since the Middle Ages. There have been several British princesses named Alice, including Princess Alice (1843 - 1878), the daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
