Meaning of the Name Aisha
The name Aisha means "living, thriving" in Arabic. Aisha bint Abu Bakr (612 - 678) was the third wife of Muhammad. In some traditions, she is considered to have been his favorite wife, and she is often referred to as "Mother of the Believers".
Aisha first became popular in the English-speaking countries after it was used in the novel She (1887) by Henry Rider Haggard. Today Aisha continues to be used in these countries, along with some of its variant spellings.

- In 11th or 12th-century Kazakhstan, there was a governor who fell in love with the beautiful Aisha-Bibi. He asked for her hand in marriage, but her stepfather refused him. Aisha-Bibi left her home secretly to go to the governor's city, but she died of snakebite on the way. The governor built the Aisha-Bibi mausoleum in her honor, and today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Kazakhs pray for children, family, and marriage.
